and what is fun about driving a miata? a while back i talked to a kid who had one and he said he had to turn off the A/C to safely merge onto a highway because it had no acceleration. if youre biased to a type of car that will take a 90 degree corner (that you wont run into on any normal road) better than another car, thats cool i guess. but acceleration is where its at. its fun to mash on the gas and rip up other cars at stop lights.

no, i did not say that a miata is not a sports car. i said it is ignorant to say a sports car is not defined by acceleration, then turn around and say it is defined by its handling performance. it is defined by a combination of the two. ie the z06, not a miata.

And to the original point of this thread....I like the way of the Japanese cars. To me there's more to a car than HP and torque. It's about making a car that the driver can connect with. You don't connect with a Mustang Cobra. You push the pedal and hang on for the ride. It sounds corny, but unless you've ever driven a real sports car you wouldn't understand. Mustang, Camaro, SRT-4, Firebird, Magnum concept...NOT a sports car. S2000, Miata, Mr2 spyder, Solstice concept, Elise.....sports car.

Personally I like the 575M though

Thats a really tough decision. Without driving either one I really can't make a fair, unbiased opinion. Personally I would have to think that Ferrari would be better at the whole sports car thing, they're ONE of the best!
P.S. I'm not holding my breath on a test drive either

A sports car is a car that is built with the sole intention on being driven hard all the time....the closer a car is to a purpose built race car...the more of a sports car it is. The less compromises a car makes straying from performance...the more of a sports car it is. The Ferrari 575M is one of the greatest Grand touring cars ever made....but not sports car. A lotus Elise is without a doubt in my mind the most hardcore sports car you can buy today.
