50 state legal means that it will pass CARB or emissions requirements, not state statutes.

When i got my ticket i went to court and told the judge i didnt know about the law , and asked if it was so illegal why can you by an afermarket exaust in any auto part store. Like radar detectors are illegal but you cant buy them in va . The judge asked me if i was getting it changed i said if need be. He let me go and i got a silencer for it and wasnt bothered again, but every time i saw a cop i put the car in neutral and driffted by him. Like one of the guys said earlier they dont care about any meters or if it says 50state legal.

a silencer might make it less likely that you would be pulled over, but you still have the risk cuz ur exhaust would still be illegal... and there's always some dick cop somewhere that will want to rape you

Wow you guys really need to learn the law. The law doesnt state that any aftermarket exhaust is illegal. You can have any exhaust on your car that doesnt affect emissions(still has a cat). The exhaust just has to be the factory "type" meaning that is must have a muffler if so equipped with one from the factory. But where they get you, is that according to the code the exhaust must not be louder than stock. So if you get a silencer than the aftermarket exhaust will be legal.

P.S. Dont ever listen to cops, that CAN and WILL lie to you about anything and everything.

OK, here's the deal flat out.

50 State Legal means it passes CARB/emission requirements. Each state has its own laws about cars and whatnot. In our great "Commonwealth of Virginia" any aftermarket mod is technically illegal.

Silencer doesn't make it any more legal. it just keeps it a little more quiet and makes it less less likely that a cop will hear it. It also will restrict the exhaust airflow (as do most fartcans w/o the silencer).

I got a ticket for my fartcan when I first got my car and when I was a little rice boy. Took pics to court that I had it changed out, but never got a chance to even mention them. The judge was that gay.

I replaced that fartcan by getting 2.25 piping all the way back into a freeflowing "stock-like" muffler with 2.25 inlet and outlet. I personally love that shit. Looks stock and sounds it at low RPMs, then when I get on it just sounds awesome. Might want to try that.

The law does say comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle which a good lawyer would argue that they both have a catalytic converter and a muffler meaning that they are comparable. As long as you had some sort of device to keep the db levels stock (silencer) it should be ok.

just go to court and say that the exhaust isn't louder than than stock, and it is the same design style as factory. say that it sounds different, but it is not louder. the officer can't prove that it's louder beyond a reasonable doubt. (since when is court fair anyway, heh).

do that and let us know what happens.
