Haha, a little glimpse at the reality of owning an EVO. If it breaks, you pay for it. They look for any excuse to decline warranty service. The mitsubishi service manager told me one time that if any other model comes through the shop needing a new tranny or whatever, no problem, they just order the part, but they have to look over the EVO's very carefully.

50% of the problem is all the jackasses abusing the shit out of the poor car and expecting coverage for drivetrain parts with less than 5k miles on them. The other %50 is that Mitsubishi service just sucks ass anyway. Combine the two and it is very hard to get any warranty coverage. I have over 20k miles with absolutely zero problems with the car luckily. I service the car myself and would never ever let a dealer touch it unless it was a catastophic failure of some sort.

I laugh at the subaru/scca membership thing.

AS a general rule, warranties are great if you drive the car for three years and get rid of it. If you do not mod it, and don't beat it all to hell, you'll be fine. But most of us enthusiasts can't leave well enough alone. And therefore, almost all of our vehicles will not be able to have warranty work done. I said f it and dropped my truck with 7K on the clock. I figure if the engine or trans goes cause I'm hard on it, I guess that'll give me a good reason to drop an LS6 in it...

Bill you NEED to get monica out there and throw her around. Cones don't leave anything a little paint cleaner can't remove, and I guarantee Nissan doesn't have spys out there at fricken' pungo.
Remember the S2000 that ruined his front lip? Maybe I might consider it. Toyota practically accused me of beating on the Spyder and I had to bring that car in four or five times before they got off their ass and sent the measurements of the pistons to Japan and found out the pistons were too short (manufacturer's defect) and sent me a brand new block at 36,000 miles. They can only speculate what you do...there's no proof.

I do however think it's fucking horrible to be searching for names on the SCCA or going to races or drag strips to deny coverages.
I'm not sure we are suggesting the mfg should replace things no matter what the cause. I just think it's dishonest to build/sell a car designed to do "X", then deny warranties if you find out the owner actually did do "X". If it's that large of a cost to them, then sell the cars w/o warranties. Race cars don't have warranties, but they are also largely hand assembled. They are also abused far more than a car at an autoX, drag strip, or even road race. Heck, the most damage to a car at an autoX is generally to the tires. The ones I've done we never even got out of 2nd gear. Race cars are also worked on after every race to inspect the parts for anything they should fix/replace before the next race. What is the point of putting stiffer sway bars, intercoolers, turbos/blowers, etc. if the mfg expects you to baby the car?

Any car can get abused... just take a rental on I64 at throw it in reverse at 50mph. The warranty shouldn't cover that, but I bet they would unless the dealership employees happened to see you. And the other thing I wonder about is where you draw the line? The first thing a mfg touts is their performance numbers (zero to 60, 1/4 mile, braking). So if the Z06 does zero to 60 in 4 seconds (or whatever it really is)... then if I take off from a light doing that every time... is that okay? I'm not racing, I'm just in a hurry.

I really have no sympathy for the mfg's anyway. If your warranty runs out at 3 years... you can bet something is going to break shortly after that. They only warranty a vehicle to the point where they think it will not cost them anything, so it's a scam for the most part anyway.

I'm just glad Ford didn't try this crap with me when I made them buy back my Saleen. They could have easily claimed that since it's a performance car I must have raced it and caused all the problems it had. This is the kind of stuff that scares me bcz most of us don't have the resources/time to fight back if these corporations try canceling our warranties.

I'm not flaming - just trying to explain why I am disappointed with the content of that article.

Hmmm,

Nissan must not be jumping on this bandwagon because I just had my 3rd and 4th gear synchros replaced under warranty. I told the dealer that "when I was auto-xing it would lock me out of 3rd." It was even written on the service write up.

They replaced everything for free and even gave me a loaner car during the downtime. Nissan marketed Spec V's when they came out as "autocross ready out of the box!" Maybe they already screwed themselves on that one.

No, Nissan defeinetly doesn't. Everyone at my dealer knows I race my car, plus they market Nismo parts for auto-xing which can still be covered under warranty.

Yea I was worried about my warranty on my truck back when I did have warranty on it. When I took it to the track I always put a fake name in for 2 reasons.
One for warranty related issues and also for insurance related issues.
Both will fuck you if they know you have been racing. I still give a fake name even though my truck is out of warranty. The less the dragstrip knows the better. IMO.

Don't you have a truck or something not exactly high performance? They assume you aren't ragging on it. They see a evo, wrx, or s2k and assume you are ragging on it. They probably don't hassle/scrutinize porsche or vette owners nearly as much because so few people that own those cars drive them like they stole them.
