att: all WRX owners!!!!!
if you still want a BOV for the noise, you can get a Greddy Type S kit for the WRX that recirculates the air back into your intake.
As far as intakes on the WRX i'm running a perrin intake and a perrin turbo inlet with no problems.
There isn't really alot of originality with a WRX, it usually goes exhaust, UTEC, bigger intercooler and a turbo upgrade(usually something from the IHI series).
Depends on how far you want to take your modifications i suppose.

get a tbe, blitz sus or similar, and a boost controller. i prefer electric, but mbc's are good to. you shoudl see decent gains with that. get some coilovers or springs if your poor like me. it'll reduce understeer, and ditch that horrid front fender gap. i have a hks bov as well, but i got it for like 50 bucks. i really like it, my car runs fine.
well, i wasn't calling anyone any names. and second, you shouldn't be coming to dragva for advice on your WRX. BOV's haven't really caused problems on 02/03's so much, but i've heard a LOT of problems with 04's and BOV/intakes. that's just what i've heard, and like i said i'm not going to take the chance.. but good luck if you decide to.
Just watch yourself, the site attract's a strange crowd that hates rice, and talking about street racing so don't bother if you're going to post about pumping NOS and blowing Turbo Civics away on the streets, just a warning I guess

Yeah your best bet is to get an up-pipe first before anything. It will increase boost by about .5 lb by its self and it will increase spool up about 300 RPM's. The next mod would really depend on how far you are planning to go with your car and what came on your car. If your planning to mod it half way decent than a boost gauge would be next, unless you got one from the factory. If so time to move to an egt gauge. Then a down pipe or boost controller would be next. I down pipe would increase spool up and HP, So would the boost controller. A BOV will work fine on you car its just that during shifts the ECU normally would see a boost in air because of the recycler type dump valve that’s is stock. The ecu is set to dump slightly more fuel at that time to comp for it. When you change to an atmosphere type BOV the air goes out side and the fuel is dump for nothing cause you to run lean for a brief second. To be straight up with you don't waste your money on it...yet. Get a cat-back after that and you should be good. I recommend that you get an "utec or =" if you plan on modding any further because any thing else you add you wont really see any true power until you can play with the fuel and timing maps. Good luck and feel free to PM me for any question you might have.
