Cycle Neeeewbie
i started out with a brand new sv650s thought i have been riding scooters and mopeds for a while. the sv650s is one of the best starter bikes ever because it is well blanced and easy to ride.
Older 1000's can still get you into trouble pretty quickly. Stick to the old 600's and go up from there. The newer 600's will also handle better than that 1000 too since most of them came with inverted forks and better brakes from 1990 on up.
i bought a honda cbr f4...its a great bike, i never rode a bike before and i also got a permit but i just dont try to do anything tooo crazy to get my ass pulled over, just take it slow and get confiable with what ever bike you get and most of all respect it

I've been looking for a bike for a friend and there's a 01 ninja 500 for $2.5k in the Va Pilot and there's an 01 sv650 down in ches for $3k. That cbr1000 is a big heavy sport touring machine with a lot of power and wouldn't be all that much fun/good for a first bike
thanks for the input, it just got sold tho when it went down to 2600obo, thanks for the input everyone, im taking the msf class right now, with 250/125cc bikes and i would have to admit, for a super noob, 750 would probly still be too much bike for me....lol
oh ya, and MSF numbers for the alexandria NoVa campus are.... (703)845-6240 and (703)845-6280

Good luck with your course, and have fun!! As far as beginner bikes, honestly, i think a r6 or even a f4i are great beginner bikes. Regardless of what everyone says, as long as you're responsible and have control over yourself, you'll be fine. A lot of people i know started off with newer 600s and are doing great. Also, since you are taking the msf course, you will have a better feel to what to look for while riding. So i say go for a newer 600 bike so that you will not regret buying an old bike only to regret it and sell it to buy a nicer bike.

I wasnt worried about goin down when i bought my 92 F2. I'm not a stunna and dont feel the need to do tricks. I just wanted something cheap to see if i would like it as much as i thought i would. Just the thought of being on something with no radio, cant smoke, no conversation, just gave me doubts as to whether i might like it or not. But honestly none of those things crossed my mind when i was out cruising, like a sense of being free.
