phil what is an msf course, give me some info
Motorcycle Safety Foundation. The beginner course is what you want. They teach you the right way on how to ride, the do's and don't. I am glad I took it, it helped alot, but that was back in 1996.

Correct me if I'm wrong but i've heard the DMV test course for your license is a bitch on a sport bike but the MSF class can substitute for that. Or maybe it was another local class offering??

The MSF course provides 250cc bikes to use. The DMV's course just makes sure you stay within the cones, but it doesnt teach you the fundamental of braking, then looking through the turn and then gently rolling on the throttle. Nor putting your left foot down first when coming to a dead stop(many riders put their right foot down first).
If anything, try and take the test on a 250cc bike(some dealerships will let you rent one for the test, or the MSF test actually will be substituted for the road test(it was back in 96 when I got my license).
Just like anything else, but more detailed. Anything brakes on a car ur somehwat ok, on a bike, it may cost you your life. Not a cushion around you anymore
