You're a eggnoramous. You can buy a 500+HP V8 crate that runs on pump gas and drive it every day if need be.
I think what you "meant" to say is, "It's not realistic to try and make a 500HP import reliable". And on that note I agree.
On to the question, any FI car is going to be easier to make more power with, duh. But when you're talking 500whp you're talking uprading the turbo anyway, which really makes it a null point. Nevertheless, the 2.0 in the Honda has "fairly" high CR which means you'd have go into the internals to properly boost it, which, I would assume would be the easiest way to make power with that motor. I could be wrong, but don't think you're going to get 500HP out of that 2.0 NA without turning it into a F1 engine. As for the EVO, I was under the impression you could make around 500HP with the stock bottom end?? (Thereagain I could be wrong) If you're having to go into the internals on both than I would think that you're just nickle & diming at that point. Both would be fairly expensive if you have to redo the whole motor.

just to clarify, only the stated cars are being considered, no supra, not cobra, no LS1, no Euro's...
it will not be a daily driver... bimmer will stick around
the differential(s) on BOTH cars will be cryo-treated as necessary.... maybe even new axle's...
the S2K will be sleeved/built for turbo...
both cars will (hopefully) be tuned for max power around 8000 rpm's...
are some of you stating that the Evo's internals DOES NOT need to be rebuilt? i wouldnt feel safe with that... 500awhp is well over 600 crank HP...
