The new law didn't change anything about who is a criminal...you were a criminal if you committed the same crimes before this law was enacted, it just adds an additional cost to being a criminal. This law does nothing to change normal traffic infractions.

If you would pay attention to the posts in this thread, you would find that simply failing to signal a turn will not automatically get you a reckless driving charge. Now if you fail to signal a turn and cause a crash and somebody gets killed, you may end up with reckless driving if you are lucky enough to not get manslaughter.

I was heading back from Baltimore at 0230 in the morning about an hour north of Richmond in Hanover County and got tagged for going 91 in 65 and was only me and another person on the highway. I'll take it, and sucks because I'm not even a resident of this state but since I have VA plates and Drivers License I'm liable to pay this states fine. Fine thats whatever, but I think it politically bias IMO why can't everyone who gets pulled over in this state pay a normal fee. So all these guys in the military around here (which I am one of those guys) get tagged for reckless with out of state plates and license and they have to just pay a normal fee? Well looks like I'm getting my Texas Drivers License back. My littel 2 Cents

You two aren't smart enought have drivers licenses...the new fines have changed nothing except how much you pay for a violation.

I'm pretty sure a majority of death on a highway are due to speed.

If you're saying that everyone that gets pulled over in VA should be fined these civil penalties, then I agree.

I can't believe someone would actually thing they'll get a huge fine for just a failure to use a turn signal.

Umm maybe you forgot but this is virginia, there was a time when the police could ticket you $50 for baggy pants and last time I checked you can still get a ticket for using profane language in va beach.

You cant fault people for being over sensitive to this place and their stupid laws.

The baggy pants law was just for a hot second. And ticketing someone for using profane language at the oceanfront is way different that getting fined a $1000+ for failure to use a turn signal. If you are comparing the two, then something else is wrong.

Not true!!! The Autobahn have 1/2 the traffic death-rate that the US does, and many portions of them do not have a speed limit.

And its not because the USA has more people, the math made population size, and amount of roadway irrelevant. I'll find the source.

Edit: I got that figure from memory from a History channel special on the autobahn (formerly Hitler's Highway), and it had been a while since I saw it.

I was wrong, but they are actually about the same. The Germans don't have speed limits in rural sections of their Autobahn and yet still have the same accident rate the Americans do. Where the highest speed limit is in Montana and is 75mph.

I've driven on both roads.

Europeans go through a much more rigorous driver's training program than we do. Their tests are much harder, 95%+ fail their drive test on the first try. My teacher in Europe failed because she didn't check her mirror one time during the test. The driving age is usually 18. Driving is also a hell of a lot more expensive because of their tax system, gas prices and the cost of the car itself is much higher.

I love Europe! You NEVER see bad drivers. If you do they are generally American tourists.
