Aftermarket steering wheels WITH airbags are very illegal and only for offroad use. So if you have an airbag, make sure it's stock.

I believe Hamann makes some, of course they cost over $1,000 so I doubt many people are ditching their stock steering wheels for them.

according to the SI manual, page 290-4, VA code 46.2-1092 and 46.2-1093:
blahblahblah
NOTE: reject the vehicle if the air bag readiness light stays on continuously or flashes.

EXCEPTION: DO NOT reject if the airbag has been deployed or removed, provided the air bag warning light has been disabled

but, that still dont mean you can have your bag removed due to federal law though. it just means that you will pass inspection if you do have one pulled.

yank it and say fuck it.
very good info! i have a momo wheel myself, and was nervous about going for an inspection in a month! when you say "federal law", how would that concern us.."regular motorists"? just curious, cause i'll be moving back to chicago in a year or so.

TRD makes a very rare steering wheel with an airbag and you have to call the place where you get it from and fill some forms out so that they are never liable for selling you the thing.

so in other words, there are no aftermarket wheels that have airbags.

i dont forsee anyone purchasing one with that kind of price tag, making them basically not even applicable to this conversation.

Some one had mentioned it earlier in the thread of getting an aftermarket steering wheel WITH an airbag so that it wouldn't be illegal.

Your car sounds nice. Got any pics? Don't you hang out with mike and jon? I want to get a momo. I looked on that site but they don't have any adapters for my car. I could probably get one on ebay though.
