Good question, yes.

Trans-Axle
The 944 torque tube and trans-axle remain stock and in their original locations. These components can handle the power output of mild performance motors when used in street driven applications. However, the 944 Turbo trans-axles are stronger and have more favorable gear ratios for the V-8 application. Automatics are not an option with this kit…sorry.
The bell housing and clutch are custom Renegade components. The one of a kind custom aluminum bell housing adapts the Porsche 944 torque tube to the Chevy small block. The custom clutch disc is a Chevy 10.5 inch high performance disc, with the Porsche center spline.

Just a little FYI, I cracked my torque tube and broke the transmission on my old 944. And that was not cheap to fix. Good luck!!!

And yes, I was launching on a side street waiting for a 132,156,431,564 car train to go through.
So as long as you don't get bored, you'll be good to go!!
An LS1 can get expensive, but it sure doesn't have to.
My car got dropped off for the knife on Sunday. The stock long block will be out in a week or so.
I got ALL new covers for the new shortblock so that the others could be left on the engine that is being pulled out. I'll also have the stock fuel rails and injectors.
Go to ls1tech.com and check the for-sale section. They have lt1 bits too.
All you need is a PCM (I have seen them programmed specific to any setup you need selling for 150 on eBay), wiring harness, coil pack and coil mounts. I am leaving sensors like crank sensor, cam sensor, etc intact, as do others commonly who pull and sell.
Oh yeah, you will need a waterpump, stock intake(01 and 02s have ls6 intake=more HP), and a balancer. Both could be junkyard parts, as well as the coils and possibly harness.
Since you will be making some of the exhaust anyway, a used set of shorty headers could be found if you look around for 100 bucks or less.
The LT1 was originally rated for like 260-280 CRANK HP. My LS1 made 303RW with heavy-ass 17x11" ZR1s and 315/35s stock running untuned and turbo-rich.
I'm not even saying buy mine, but if I did the swap I know which one I'd go with. Think about the car and the long-run; you KNOW which one will be more satisfying.

I have an extra near-stock LT1 sitting in my garage. I converted the one that I have in my Impala to a 383 stroker and am putting some serious numbers down. If you would like to come over and take a look at it sometime and make an offer, I am open. Let me know.
well my goal is to be happy and not broke. I would LOVE an LS1, God knows i do. But for now i think the Lt1 will suit my needs.
