Yeah pretty much any R200 diff will work for that conversion whether it be a modern S chassis, J30's, Z32, R32, R33.... Only NA Z32's though as the turbo models had the longer-geared and physically larger R230 ala most Q45's of the day.

Is the diff the only thing that broke or failed? Basically if he replaces just the diff, the car will be ready for another go with no problems?

yea the ring and pinion gears are what broke, the diff at this point is obviously the weak link, but once we solve that with the rear end conversion, the question will be how long the tranny's hold up and at what power level.
