the fact that the police is run 24/7 365 is great, but what good is it if you put people on the streets to enforce the law that are not fit to do so? thats just poor management, and im sure its only frowned upon by the county, as we see that this particular cop got off. im sure the only reason he got off is because he has to live with the guilt the rest of his life, but shit, if something similar happened to me (take the driving tired example stated earlier in this thread), i would be locked up on sight, and be charged to the full extent of the law.
i guess what im saying is that he should not recieve special treatment simply because hes a cop. he still ended a life before his/her time, and be should charged to the full extent of the law. being tired is not an excuse for murder. im rambling/repeating, but what can i say, im tired

regardless of the fact that i hate police for my own personal reasons, and putting all that biast shit aside. police officers are supposed to be trained professionals, and im guessing they would have to go through a lot of training before getting into any police force, especially with their weapon. they are supposed to be trained to handle their weapons so that shit like this doesn't happen. going along with what i think is a cover up story, it says that this cop was a good cop for over 17 years in the fairfax county police force. in 17 years, that cop has never had to pull a 12 hour shift? or was ever put into a more extreme and stressful situation? i honestly think that this entire story sounds like bullshit, but thats just my 2 cents.

Dude I hear what you are saying and I can't actually tell you in this situation that accidental disharge did occur. But the weapons police use have to meet certain criteria to prevent this. Take you berretta M92 for example. The first shot is double action and the sear is in place unless you apply the neccesary force with your trigger finger to discharge the round. If your finger is NOT on that trigger applying force IT WILL NOT FIRE.
Even IF the hammer falls, the sear will prevent the firing pin from striking the primer of the casing.
For an agency to approve a weapon they put it through it's paces to assure situations like this wont happen. Either this guy was carrying his duty weapon improperly our his adrelinine got the best of him. The Army taught me not to have my finger in the trigger well until you are ready to fire. I'm sure cops are taught the same thing in the academy.
actually it can be put in single or double at any time all you have to do is cock the hammer. and these tests that you speak of are when if at all when they first get a weapon , its to expensive or time consuming to test weekly or watever. in all honesty, im not gonna get into a pissing contest over who knows more, fact is i appreciate (unlike other people being civil in these arguments)your input and im gonna end with a motovating sucks to be him.
I really hope the county gets rid of this fucking idiot Horan. I mean Jesus fucking Christ... lawyers can take McDonald's to court for some woman spilling coffee over herself, but Fairfax can't prosecute a cop for being too tired to do his job without killing someone?
All I've got to say is that now there should be absolutely NO reason at all for cops to question why people are afraid of them. NONE. You guys just had an officer get away with murder. Hands down.
If the FCPD really wants to earn the community's trust, they ought to be the ones to come forward and hold one of their own responsible. People get fired for much less in the private sector. It wouldn't suprise me one fucking bit if this guy goes right back on duty like nothing happened.

Gun still wont fire unless you pull the trigger. Drop test from the manufacturer
confirm this. This is requirement for LEA's.
Walking around with a cocked hammer
and finger on the trigger is not procedure.
