I'll be there. I'd host it, but we're vegans, and I doubt many people would come if I told them there would be no meat or cheese there...

We don't really do much "cooking out". Grilled veggies, portobello mushrooms, etc. sometimes, though. But, we eat lots of pasta, Mexican, and Asian food. We have plenty of meat-eating friends, and they all agree when they eat over here, they don't miss the meat at all...

I knew it, hippie! You blow glass, drove a Subaru, and now I find out you're vegan.

I must admit that I'm relatively ignorant when it comes to vegan culture. I don't know exactly what you can/can't/don't eat, and for that matter, as Lanky asked.. what you WOULD cook out if you were hosting a cookout. Care to clue us in?

edit: oops. I typed this up and had to postpone submitting because I got a call. d'oh!

Basically, if it came from an animal, I don't eat/drink/wear/sit on it. So, no, I don't eat meat, cheese, ice cream, milk, gummy bears (gelatin), jell-o, etc. I don't wear leather, and I don't drive a car with leather seats. I do eat chocolate. Cheap chocolate has milk, good chocolate doesn't.

And, yes, that still leaves plenty of options. Most of what we eat, like I said earlier, is pasta based, rice based, grain based, or bean based. Most people are reluctant to try vegan food because it doesn't look like what you are used to eating. But, I have found very few people who didn't enjoy it. In fact, I only know one person, but he just tells me that to mess with me I think...

For more info, check out www.veganfreaks.com. There is a forum there that I post in a little bit, but many of them are very militant about it. They don't tolerate people who eat meat or wear leather. I'm not that way. I don't like it, but it's not my place to tell anyone else what to do.

Oh, and yes, my children are being raised vegan (while they are at my house, anyways).

If you're lucky, I'll let you cook up some vegan food for me to try sometime. I'm always afraid to try new things but I'm interested in being more open minded about food. That is, if you're lucky... haha

Well, we're going to have a housewarming party once we get moved into our new house. That would be a good opportunity. In fact, we're going biking in the morning, so you can kill two birds with one stone.

Of course, killing birds isn't vegan, but you get my point...
