Yeah, looks like it has a fuckin lift kit on it... It may get some attention once race season is over, but it's just a beater. The T/A gets the love.

Thanks for the link.

This is a daily, and I don't want it stealing ANY focus from the T/A, but a mechanical boost guage and a MBC is peanuts...

I just need to know how far it go running the stock maps. I don't want to push the edge or anything, but anything I can pick up that easily I wouldn't want to leave on the table.

Is this the forum to be reading?:

The wastegate on other 1.8ts is exactly the same as any other internally gated turbo. I didn't know the 98 model was sans n75. I'd look into it if I were you. Look further at least.

I'm having trouble finding a solid Audi tech authority. LS1tech.com has me spoiled and covered for the T/A... there needs to be a 18t-tech.com

I have been told conflicting things over at the forums of VWVortex.com about the the gate itself, it's operation and what I get from the GIAC 'chip' (why the fuck do they call an ECU re-flashing a 'chip', or say things like, "my shit is chipped" ???)

Anyway thanks alot.

I'm suprised that there isn't an answer in the 1.8t forum on vwvortex. There are quite a few guys over there that know a lot.

And the reason it's called a chip is that they haven't always reflashed the ECU. They used to actually put a new chip in the ecu that had the new maps loaded to it.

I think there may be some knowledge base over there, but alot of it is high and mighty. I have exhausted their search and read through the archives going back almost 2 years and can't get the solid info I'm looking for. I get "absolutes" from the members, but they are unable to explain why they are telling me the things that they are. One guy told me that if I were to up the boost from factory via MBC that the "MAF would break".... Wow, 4-5 psi over stock breaks the MAF

Since I have no N75, where does the vacuum signal come from? Is it handled via solenoid and ECU or am I running straight gate? If I am running straight gate than no reflashing in the world is gonna change the boost obviously...

If a DRAG sponsor is reading this (vr-4ever cough cough or anyone else) and has some insight please chime-in. I could throw some local $. Thanks Corey.

Some people on vwvortex are crazy. The MAF does not see any boost so increasing the boost would do nothing. However, the fuel deliever is altered per the MAF's readings. When tuning a 1.8t, I know that injector sizing, maf housing size and boost all need to be of a certain size to get things to run correctly. EXAMPLE: A 1.8t (AWW, AWP, etc.) with a big turbo upgrade runs great with a VR6 MAF housing and 440cc injectors. Switching a part of this combination could result in something not running properly.

To test your theory, just make a simple boost controller and install it to see what you get. If you can't get any extra boost, something else is controlling the signal obviously.

The 1.8t is an odd animal, but is a great engine. People have put out over 500hp on a stock block. It's a stout piece. I don't see you causing any problems whatsoever.

Jay (vr-4ever) is great with electronics, but he's not really a vw/audi guy.

Sorry for the long post. I hope you can figure it out. I've been reading vwvortex a lot lately thanks to some friends with questions (and you) and now I think I'm headed back to vw/audi.

I need to snag up a mech boost guage and toss it in before I do any manual fiddling. I'll prolly order one this evening. www.audiworld.com is great, but it's the board-type forum and it sucks to only be able to read a single response at a time. It's a bigger forum though by far than vwvortex.

Any idea how far the factory fuel system will carry things? I'd like to stay below whatever the factory setup could feed, I don't wanna get very extreme with my daily driver. Even with a mech boost guage I'm still leary of fiddling with no WB or FP guages...

Think I should make a new post in the tech section? Thanks again.

There isn't many people here who will have a clue what the factory fuel system on an A4 ('98) can do. I think with a ko3 you'll be fine turning the boost up. The chipped cars run in excessive of 20psi.
