Why sue them? I pretty sure you can take that to the dealership and they'll fix it for you. IIRC SRS systems are covered indefinitely. I had something happen to mine and they fixed it on my honda...and it had 200k miles. They don't want their customers to die. They want us to buy from them again.

And what of the Pinto? It never rolled over. It just exploded. Ford knew it would explode before the first one rolled off the line. But they decided that settling wrongful death lawsuits out of court would be cheaper than spending ~50 cents per Pinto to fix it before anyone died. The fact that that plan blew up in their face () makes it pretty puzzling that they did almost the same exact thing at least two more times.
Yes...right here

Hmmm.

My take on all this is that of a simpleton consumer. Ford Quality fucking sucks right now. Their trucks are having more issues than they EVER have in the past. No, I have no proof or documentation, except that at least 3 people I know up here who bought trucks in the last 2 years have had nothing but problems, and two of them finally gave up and traded them in for a Chevy when Ford stopped honoring thier warranties because it was "damaged incurred by the owner".

The transmission/rear-end and wiring on a truck owned by a 50 year old guy. Yeah becuase he takes it mudding every weekend.

Shitty.

Nope, they'll fix it for free.

They never spontaneously blew up. There weren't any more failures on Firestones than any other tire at the time. There was just more heat on Firestone because when tires blew on Explorers people died. And more Explorers had Firestones. Plenty of flipped Explorers had Goodyears.

Bridgestone is a stronger company because after the bullshit Ford threw at them to save their own asses they restructured and fixed just about everything they could find even slightly wrong with their company. What did Ford do? Oh yeah, they started losing money and falling apart from the inside out. I don't know why your friends don't trust Firestone tires. Maybe they're just being unreasonable.

By the way, what kind of tires did all the Bonco IIs that killed people have on them? Were they amazing exploding tires that only exploded on Fords, too?

On the contrary, I've heard dozens of problems with the new Titan, most commonly the brakes. Are they justified...? I don't know... but I've certainly heard of them. Does that damn the whole truck? Not in my opinion.

My brother-in-law has a '05 F150 with over 100,000 miles (he commutes 150 cumulative miles to work daily) and hasn't had a problem.

Ultimately, my whole argument is basically just bench racing, but none-the-less FACTS from what I've heard or seen.

I did. You don't have to call me Jesus.

Here's what it says:

On July 9, 1999, a Los Angeles jury awarded $4.9 billion to six people burned in a rear end collision when the gas tank in their 1979 Chevrolet Malibu, located merely 11 inches from the rear of the car, gushed into an inferno. Testimony in that case showed that it would have cost General Motors only $8.59 to employ a safer design, but the company decided it would be cheaper to settle lawsuits that arose from exploding gas tanks, rather than prevent deaths and crippling injuries from burns.
Basically, ONE twenty year old Malibu exploded and somebody proved GM could've made it safer by spending more money. But apparently all the other Malubis made it out okay so I doubt it was very deadly. With the Pinto, Bronco II, and Explorer several vehicles destroyed themselves DURING PRE-PRODUCTION TESTING and Ford did nothing.

How many Malibus were destroyed during testing that this $9 fix would've saved? That was my question.

Funny you should bring up the Titan. Do you know why dealers had to sort out problems with ill-fitting doors on early cpoies of the latest F-150s? Because Ford wanted to release the F-150s before Nissan could get the Titan out. The drivers in the test fleets said "They aren't ready for the public yet" and Ford said "Let the dealers deal with it."

And they do. Ask anyone near the top in the car business food chain where the money is in Ford dealerships. Some people want a Ford dealership just because of the money the service departments make.

Ford needs more appealing products, period. Ford owns;

Aston Martin
Jaguar
Land Rover
Lincoln
Mazda (33%)
Mercury
Volvo cars

Only mazda and ford actually produce daily commuter cars, the rest generally produce higher end stuff. Stuff in a niche. Ford keeps shooting itself in the foot by making crappy cars, they went from the taurus to the whale (aka, the 500). The mustangs, while 'OK' are cheaply made. Go sit in one. It feels like poo, EVERYTHING is mile crate plastic. The F-150, while still a top seller, is losing market to GM and Toyota. Only other things they have are the focus which has little appeal to new buyers. Mazda has the 3 series, and thats about it. Ford needs to build a spunky, low cost, fuel efficient car. I'm not talking like a chevy aveo low cost, but something that a buyer would take a second glance at over a civic or an accord.
