Building a sanctioned drag strip in the 757.
well hopefully everyone is seriously committed to the idea because there is no way this is getting done over night. sung why not set up a website affiliated with dragva.com that is only for the purpose of setting up a dragstrip in 757? im behind it all the way with whatever i can do but the only way to get anything done is to get organized and start appointing jobs.

alright here's my take on some of the issues brought up.
i in no means ever said this was going to be a guarenteed success, nor have we really started anything in concrete. what we're doing in this thread is gathering opinions as to whether or not this CAN be done.
hampton roads is a fairly large metropolitan area. if you think of the area it surfaces, hampton roads is the 27th largest metro area in the united states, with about 1.5 million. san diego is the 17th largest metro area, with about 2.5 million. 1 million people may be a lot, but in perspective, i believe we have the proper demographics in this area to have a chance.
but you have to remember, san diego didn't BUILD their own track, they're currently using Qualcomm stadium, home of the Chargers.
at this point, i would also agree that 1/8th mile track is the realistic goal to shoot for. when thinking about a drag strip, you have to remember that its a law that there has to be at least the same distance of stopping room. so a 1/4 mile track would require a 1/4 mile of road to stop, thus having to pave a 1/2 mile long road instead of a 1/4 mile road for an 1/8th mile track.
if it comes to, i don't envision some sort of state of the art facility being built YET. but i do see a strip of paved road, pit area, some grandstands and a tree. parking can be makeshift, and so can many of the other things.
i dont know this for sure, but at the scale we're thinking, i don't think day-day to operations expenses will be much. sponsors and advertisers will GLADLY jump on board to have their name out there, and it will help on cost tremendously.
we don't necessarily have to have the money to build this track with money from OUR pockets. we just have to convince somebody rich that the investment will be worth it. that brings up the issue of revenue. if we sell-out the whole track full of sponsor ads, that will help bring down the cost of events. because we're going to be offering very little more than a strip of road to launch on, i don't envision the cost of an event being at $20 like you see at big tracks.
YES it won't take everybody off the streets, but with proper promoting i think we are at an advantage of because of THIS very site. a majority of people can easily can information about "track info" from this site, and because we have a more tight knit community than many places around the country, we are at a definate advantage.
to say that this is NEVER going to happen is far from the truth. if the redtape would overrule all aspects of having a track build, then there wouldn't be any tracks around the country. like i said before, we're not talking about a state of the art facility here, just something small scale. but again, in no means am i guarenteeing that anything will surface, but the discussion is worth the try.

I would definitely like to see this happen, and I think it can be done.
I think having an 1/8 mile added at Langley is a good idea, becaue their competitor (South Hampton) is doing the same thing. Gotta keep up with the Jones', you know?
