I think he's talking about adiabatic efficiency of the compressor, and the point at which the turbo is doing work (compressing air over ambient) instead of just consuming energy. Or the point at which the max possible exhaust energy is being consumed by the turbo and used to do work. I understood what he was getting at, unfortunate wording or not.

seems like he misused the word. its nerdy mechanical engineering talk and means no heat from the gas/liquid is transfered out of the system, which is the compressor of the turbo in our case. An example would be a well insulated pipe in your house with hot water running through it.
