teenager (under 18) racing.
+1 for the local autoX scene. There are several drivers under 18 out there at every event. I have the same issue with my 16 yr old, I had him signed up to drive an event, and he was stoked, that was until he got his first ticket. It's a good thing to hold over thier head, cause once they start it's addictive. It's the best place to learn real car control and there will be many people willing to ride along and coach him if he wants. I'd much rather my son hit a cone than a tree.
Plan on 20 to 45 bucks per event depending upon where, when, with whom, and depending upon how many runs you get (i.e. less cars allowed = more runs but a higher entry fee.)
i dunno i may have to give it a try. is it year round? im supposed to get a new clutch near the end of july begining of August. Is there one any time in august?
oh and i have a question. how do you know where you are going.. i mean i see all of the cones but how do you know which 1 to to through next? does any1 know what i mean? i watched a few autox's online and i dont know how they know where there going , i dont think it would really be that hard...

I'm sure there are plenty in August. I can think of two offhand (NASA @ VMP in Dinwiddie on Aug 3 and NASA @ Langley Speedway in Hampton on Aug 31.)
You walk it first to find your way. Several times if possible. And with an experienced person giving advice if possible. The smaller courses on smaller lots usually involve some crossover - having to remember which sections to drive twice - while the bigger courses on bigger lots don't, they roughly run the perimeter with little to no crossover (and multiple cars on course at a time, like 30sec start intervals.)
Here's some video of the course we had this past Sunday at VMP:

Also if you want to dive in with both feet, the best autocross school in the country is coming to VMP on September 7:
