i believe they still can't open or keep the envelope. i too heard about it first as a trucker solution. All i've heard for VA is they can confiscate and destroy the detector and for an STI i'm not looking to give it up. a padded box will take care of any ill feelings directed towards it and a small non-moving violation is fine compared to getting snagged at every speed trap.
In VA, the cop can take it as evidence but it is returned after court. Unless your an asshole, most cops aren't going to bother taking it since its more paperwork for them. Usually they just write down the serial # and hand it back to you since its just an equipment violation like tint or exhaust
The padded envelope is a good idea, never thought of that. Looks like I'll be dropping by the post office on my way home tonight.
lol...and i looked up the law it is illegal to have them even in the car. off or on. plugged in or not.
Radar detectors are not illegal to own or posses but illegal to operate. If a cop tryed to give me a ticket for one in my trunk i whould fight it and win...
i use the sti driver hardwired in and mounted to the headliner, i have been searched one time. The cop grabbed it dident realize what it was and continued with his search so im not ever really worried about a ticket now.
