13sec 1/4 mile or faster with a LS
LS engine, new head gasket, new rings, bearings...used turbo kit (hondata, crome, neptune) 13" HX wheels or lensos, 22" slicks = 12 second pass. Put stiff springs in the rear to help with traction

You can use springs or coilovers. If it's a straight drag car just use really stiff springs in the back (you don't want the rear to sit)
Look into getting a tunable ECU (hondata, neptune, etc). Engine mgmt. is so important, and can always grow with you as you upgrade in the future.
There are other little things to look into. Injectors, fuel pump..if you have slicks at the track you need extended wheel studs...upgrade clutch. Deff. an expensive hobby

i went 13.9 with a bone stock internal 143xxx mile ls motor in a SI hatchback that was gutted ( no sound deading in the entire car, no speakers, radio, radio wiring etc). no p/s or a/c
the build was simple....
stock ls motor.
gsr trans
pwjdm intake
dtr header
skunk 2 intake manifold
hondata intake manifold gasket
edlebrock 65mm tb
and a buddy club spec II exhaust. ( i lost torque with this exhaust but picked up 2 hp.)
tuned on chrome. made 150whp on a dynojet.
and i couldnt drive back then. had alot of launching issues due to my launch control being set in the wrong place.... way to low... so my 60fts were horrid
