As far as clutches go, I am for sure a beginner. So I am to understand that the companies are to fake the stage numbers to refer better numbers to beginners? So how would one estimate one kind of clutch to get for his application?

yes sir.
the one i use has a sprung hub. if that car had some fuel injectors on it, i'd let you drive it. its a fucking dream.(and the car makes 350+ft/lbs torque)
and i've had clutches that i hated to drive. all of them were pucked in some nature and all of them were copper.

simplicity of parts really. unsprung hub is alot easier to manufacture than a sprung hub. my clutch in my white car which is an unsprung organic material cost me 200$. a comparable stock clutch woulda been 325$ and a nice pucked or dual friction is 350-400$
but, the one i chose drives the best and will hold just as much power as the others. gotta love experience from trial and error. and ive had alot of error.
the race car (sr20) i have a clutch specialties full face sinterd iron sprung hub disc on a dual diaphram pressure plate.
on the daily car (ka24det) i have a clutch specialties full face copper impregneted organic unsprung disc on a dual diaphram pressure plate.
they both drive like a dream in traffic, and take to full on drag launches. race car gets 1.4sec 60fts and loves it. white car sits in traffic everyday and loves those slow uphill starts.
