VA State Troopers cannot "drop" or "tear up" tickets after they have been written. Once he starts writing on the ticket, thats it, its going to the courthouse. Why? Because each summons is numbered and must be accounted for at the end of the month, if one is missing, it means big trouble for the trooper. Local officers, like city and county police, can rip up a ticket if they want to, they are not required to keep accounts of their tickets. If the trooper dropped the ticket after he had already written it and you signed it, then he's losing his job. Unless I'm missing something its not possible. So what really happend? Did he only threaten to write you for drag racing?

You need to get a lawyer i payed a lawyer $1000 one time for a racing ticket and they would only drop it to reckless I had a fine of $372 6 points off my license 1 day in jail but instead I did community service (first time offender) and had to do 2 years good behavior. Yes my insurance jumped from $91 a month to $151 a month that was 3 years ago.
It was in Virginia Beach with Officer D.P.Bender badge #1568
Lawyer hired Lawrence Cardon associate of Pete Decker.
P.S. I was not even racing that day the Officer made it up accused me of racing a motorcylce and I had internal affairs do an ivestigation on the officer and they said he did wrong on what he did. I received an apology from the City of Virginia Beach but it was never corrected on my part.

after all of the replys i only got some decent advice from some of you and thats to be represented. Yes the trooper did tear up the dragging ticket and he did it right in front of me and I made sure it was completely ripped so I didnt have any fun suprises. I found out earlier that it was a 65mph zone. It was on 64 right next to the Naval Weapon Station exit. I know thats 65 and I have an awesome lawyer that will bring that up for sure. Anyone want to take drivers improvement with me lol? My guess out of all of this is a 200 fee plus 40 hours community service plus some kind of probation which aint shit. Jail time????? yeah my ass would be in Canada before any big men get there hands on my me. Anywho anyone have a cop write false information on the ticket and then on the court date it was dropped? David

lol you can take the bumper off my car while Im at community service (you need to list a price). damn i hope im not at the spca or washing cop cars fucking bull shit. tell me some of your guy's community service work.

But now I am stuck with 41 mph wreckless ticket and its my first speeding ticket and Im 19. Im going to do drivers improvement but I really need to hear from someone with experience in this matter if I should be represented. i would really like some advice. thanks, David

yah expect to be on probation for at least 6 months. that means you can have no moving, or vehicular, violations within that time frame. i did a little community service before i went to court showing that i had initiative. just did two sundays for 2-3 hours at my church's soup kitchen. my job there was to pour iced tea into plastic cups.
the advantage of having a lawyer who is familiar with the city law enforcement is that on the same day of your hearing, they can talk to the commonwealth of virginia(prosecutor) prior to your hearing and negotiate or emphasize that its your first reckless ticket. this can help the outcome of the judge's decision.
