New Shift Light ( Concept )
My advice is to make them all come on at once... don't do any sweeping. I have a knocklink in my car which has 2 green LED's, 2 yellow, and 1 red. As knock gets worse the appropriate LED's go off. The problem with this is the different colors and positions (since they are so close together) requires you to concentrate on what's going on with the knocklink. You can make them sweep somehow, but make sure when you reach that shift point something dramatic happens that really sets it off.
Yeah thats how we all do it last I checked.
I guess its mostly cause i want to have a get ready to shift and a shift so that its more consistent.
If something has your attention and you are looking at it the more time you have to be prepared to shift the better. Thats where consistency comes into play.

I think what it mostly is going to come down to is the market you are looking to sell to. You gotta think about that before using what you think is gonna be best.
From the looks of it you aren't marketing to the domestic crowd, and the faster half of the racing scene. They are more of then than not happy with the single staged bulb cause they don't have time to pay attention to accessories. If they even have to pay attention to a shift light (Ex. automatics)
Your market is going to be to the Pep Boys special crowd. They are the ones that are going to buy cobalt series gauges and want extra blinky things. If thats what they want and thats your target market you are going to sell more product. Give them what they want. If it has one more ligh that comes on that makes it better than the rest.
I'm not trying to joke anyone or anything like that but its the truth. Watch that high rev tuners crap and you will see.

Put a poll up on this board. See who is going to be willing to spend extra money on a shift light that fits in the pod thats got leds and matches. I bet you your crowd of me's or yes's will be the show half of the board if there is that much on the board.
When I looked into a shift light I looked for one that A. did what it was supposed to do and B. was the cheapest possible. It simply isn't a piece that anyone in the go fast department is going to spend extra money on. That narrows your market to the afformentioned crowd. Like it or not thats how it goes.
Being blinky is not what we were suggesting. Just a dual stage light on and off. Nothing ricey about it. Extra poinits in a car show for the shift light that has two stages.

I just checked prices of the different shift lights. They aren't to far off. I was under the impression that the led lights were more expensive than the old style. I guess thats changed.
If they are in the ball park of the current lights then go for it. Worse comes to worse changes can be made.
