They were designed for european ssports cars/coupes/sedans, the main reason the tires don't go over 285 in 18" (315 in 17") form is because of the higly directional tread pattern; which probably wouldn't work at all if the tire is too wide. Almost all wide tires I've seen have non-directional grooves for evacuating water (important, as wide tires hydroplane verrrry easily) the GS-D3 has none of these grooves (because the "V" pattern works well when the water doens't have too far to go.)
I dunno, just my $.02

I dunno I had a set of falken ziex 512's and they seem to last the best of the selections provided, but keep in mind performance tire = short life span. Those of you suggesting the Goodyears they are NOT cheap tires, granted I agree you get what you pay for but they will probably be ~120 for his size (assuming they are available) and I don't think he is looking to spend a LOT on tires. You can easily have the Dunlop SP Sport 901's for ~75 a piece which are good performers and decent treadwear @ 220 which will be most of your V-speed rated tires, the Falken Ziex 512's for ~85 @ a 360 treadwear V-speed rating and the BFG Traction T/A's for ~95 @ 440 treadwear... all are good tires and will allow you to pay sub 400 for the set + shipping, normally I would buy something like this locally but prices online are hard to beat but I have access to the base hobby shop in portsmouth and mount/balance equipment for ~5 a tire.
alright guys, here's what's up. no longer am i looking at the Azenis b/c i need a longer tread life and less expensive tire. Im gonna need these soon, b/c yesterday when it started raining, i went through a yellow light making a left hand turn and my REAR end (yes, my car is FWD) swug around and i did a 360 in the middle of a crowded intersection. lucky, i steered my ass off and kept her off the guard rail and the surrounding cars. I know the reason i spun was the lack of tread on my rear tires. so after that experience, wet handling has moved up on the priority list. Im leaning towards the Nittos or the Supra 712s (i dont wanna hear the crap from Kumho haters unless u have facts to back it up). anyway, keep the comments coming!
