I did some research last night, through my old boss who imports British cars that are not allowed in the U.S. ......You can bring a car over and not have to get it legalized if you buy two seperate cars, meaning buy the front half of one Skyline and the rear half of another put them togeather, (Bodyshops all over do this) but to get a title for it it has to be a salvage title and it will never be able to trade owners and clear the title of salvage status......Sounds kinda expensive still but you could buy it in peices and work on it as you go......

so is this a possible thing to do? i'm a little confused, if i were to buy a 16,000 dollar r32 for instance, i would have to add 7-10,000 on top of that to legalize it?

i was thinking of some day going to europe (maybe germany) and buy an accord type r, tear it down into a front clip, and the rear half, and ship it back in two boxes. then go to a junk yard, and buy a trashed accord or acura TL for a small price and take the VIN number off of it and throw it on the type R

of course, that's all theory.

or, go over to europe, and take a cruise back w/ the new car on the cruise. i wonder if that would work, heh.

The answer is yes.

You can buy a cheap r32 and spend the loot to have it sent over (which in itself will cost a fair amount), but to have it legalized for street usage, you still have to spend money for a certified company to make all the retrofits for it to be legal.

And since there's only one company that can legally make your skyline legal (that company being MotorEx), you'd be spending an additional 16,000 for an r32.

Swapping VIN's is still illegal.

So basically the car would still be illegal. You'd just be lying about it's legality.

To add on this note... car companies are getting smart with VINs... newer cars can have them stamped in places you'd never even look. My car has some high ass amount like 15 places where it's stamped. I'm not saying you will get caught... but it's nearly impossible to rid a newer car of all it's VIN markings.
