If get a super sport 600 at least get it used. You don’t wanna drop and mess up a bike that you bought BRAND NEW! Dropping a new bike can feel like scratching a new car. But I still think a cbr F3 is the perfect starter bike it’s not to intimidating to learn on but it has enough power to keep you happy for a long time. You need to keep a 600 for at least a year or two so you can learn some skills that you can’t learn on a bigger bike. just my .02

I started on a Kawi 250..of course up here the ZZR250 looks SO MUCH better than the southern bretheren. The 250 is great, you will learn the basics for sure.

If you watn a lil more speed, look at an EX500 or a GS500. They top out around 210kmh (130mph). The EX has +10hp over the GS tho...wheelies nicer too!

New supersports are not elarner bikes. 600cc pushing close to 120hp...stop and think about this...a 350lb bike doing 120hp. A civic at 2500lb is 115hp...the bike is bloody fast!! Older (Pre-98) 600s are good if you have a penile deficiency and think you need a bigger machine to compensate.
SV650 is a marvellous bike..but beware...unlike a 600 I-4 engine, the V-2 generates a LOT of torque, and all down low. This will power wheelie (throttle only, no clutching) @3000rpm. Most 600s dont get torque till 9000rpm. SV is 75HP, but good for 240kmh (150mph)

IMHO: Go 500. best balance of speed and newbie manageability. You wont get bored here.

i cant power wheelie worth shit on my bike (04 sv650s) unless its in first gear, i let off, then gag the throttle. and, i think they only do 136mph.

For some reason people always have the same complaint...wheelies have never been a problem here. 3000-6000rpm the wheel will just come up on my '04. Just sit back on your seat. And btw: im talking when mine was stock. Now second gear power wheelies are no problem

Besides..ONLY 136mph?? How fast can you go through corners anyway? MotoGP goes as slow as 60kmh (37mph) in the corners!!

There is so much more to going fast than horsepower...

The SV will power wheelie in first around 5-7k rpm, and second gear on a cold day

atleast thats how mine is..

for me though its not all about huge amounts of power, you can never use that much on the street lol.. liter bikes are hardly manageable on the track!

what do you want? a STREET bike or a highway/strip monster?

im not saying 136 is slow, i said that because the other guy said they will do 150, and they wont. if i cared about horsepower, i would of gotten a liter bike and i would have this thin ass chicken strip down the rear of my tire.. but i dont.

also, do you have the sv650, or the sv650s? i hear the sv650's wheelie better than the sv650s' do.
