2006 Eclipse
The last real Eclipse was produced in 1999, since then it has been a repulsive reincarnation of a name
The 3G and 4G Eclipses are minus the only 2 things that made the first 2 generations worth having. Turbo and AWD. I would have rather just seen them discontinue that line. You can get a Mustang GT or GTO in the same price range, why would you want an overrated, underpowered pig
Wake Up and Drive
Mitsu needs to wake up and relize they killed the real perfomance car(should only have 2 doors) and replaced it with a family car. The auto industry is making me sick with all these performance inspired 4 doors
The stupidest thing is Chrysler didn't make the Neon a 4 door only car until they put a real drivetrain in it

if people actually *bought* the gs-t's or gsxs when they were on the dealer's lot, you might just have seen 3g and 4gs with the same config.
The problem is, they sold like total ass.
So yeah, they woke up and were trying not to go out of business

If there wasn't a demand for that platform what was the purpose to bring the EVO for US production
It's not a sports coupe, but a 4 door sedan. A slightly different market appeal.
While sales aren't dismal, they aren't exactly flying off the lot:
March '05 sales figures (would have picked April or May, but April didn't show numbers and May lumped all Lancers together)
December '04 sales with YTD
Unfortunately, I couldn't find sales figures for 1999 and earlier that seperated the GSX/GS-T from the RS/GS models.

Mike Krebs, vice president-product strategy for MMNA, says one reason
for abandoning AWD was the take rate in the second-generation Eclipse's
final year.
“If you go back to that F-generation car, which is the last time we
offered AWD, it was a less than 3% take rate,” Krebs says at a media
briefing here.
“It's something that, especially as you look at front-wheel drive and
all that power, (Eclipse's new 3.8L V-6 boasts 263 hp), it's common
sense to want (AWD). But we have to make a business case for it, and the
demand historically has not been there.”

I have had my 3g since Sept 01 it has ~65k miles on it. Other than normal maintenance (oil/tune up/brakes/tires/etc) the *only* thing that has gone wrong with it? I blew a shift solenoid, and that is thanks to the idiots at Meineke here in Yorktown who apparently don't know how to put tranny fluid in a vehicle. And I don't exactly baby the car. Has held up better than both my Corolla and RX-7 (1st gen, non turbo) that I had previously owned.
