In the UK, drag racing isn't a big thing at all. Most people frown upon cars that are road legal (not sure how your road legal/non legal stuff goes over there) yet when the come to a 1/4 mile they use slicks or cut slicks.... Most people prefer to have more of a "track orientated" car (i.e race track). Its only the days where you can just run your car up the strip that people go to, there isn't any official competitions.

It seems to get a 1/4 mile time, you should be running road legal tyres, on a road legal car.

If you want a fast 1/4 mile car, then you may as well do it properly, non road legal, slicks, properly setup suspension etc..... (mind you, many people still think Nitrous is cheating here as its not constent power (as in when the bottle runs out, you can't use it) but some others do use it and swear by it).

So, I was wondering... What kind of times do you lot seem to get running a fully legal and normal tyre'd cars over there. What engine are you running (just the engine CC, NA or Turbo'd (or SC'd etc)). What is considered a "respectable" time.....

Over here, 14's is ok, 13's is the time to aim for, and 12's is considered very quick (on specs above).....

Just wondered really.......
While the old "run what you brung" holds true over here, it is more respectable IMHO to run track times as you would run your car on the street from day to day.

13's = ok

12's = quick

11's = moving it

10's = fast

9's.... well, you don't see very many single digit cars on the street, but they are definately out there, and they usually have lots of cubes and steamrollers in the back.

Hope that gives you a better image of how things are here.

Im just slower than SOME b-series.

I pulled on Wiggs from a 65 roll, and take bolt-on LS's all the time.

I havent even run you yet.

Let me drive Wiggs car, there is a difference in weight, better yet, run Bryan's GSR.. I wont laugh too hard at bolt-on LS's...

You don't want none, or we can run at the track.

Don't argue about all 102 lb-ft of torque either. It sucks.
I won't argue. I'm in the same process, but low compression and a LS crank.

couldn't agree more, im all for running as you would in the street. thats why it will be a long time before ill be running slicks or anything like that. Id rather have an 11 sec. street car that can be raced than a 10 second race car that can go on the street.

I can agree, big time.

But I don't street race, play around yes, but no more street racing for I.

I'm buying a good set of M&Hs and Lensos this summer, but then again, to get a good time with a FWD, you gotta run slicks. Isn't that sad?

well i dont really street race either, never have. but imo it makes sense to get a time that represents how fast your car is on the daily. your old times were decent if i remember right but slicks always help.

Thanks.

Slicks will help, but a snail will help better.

MMs car is a true 9 sec street car. AC and it ran 9s with a stock 98 cam. Turbos vs H/C(heads and cam). Is always a good battle on LS1tch but the arguement best used for turbo cars is we are more streetable, but take alot more tuning and perfecting. How many car tho can get 20+mpg and put down 700+rwhp. Cant comment on hondas but most real LS1 guys will tell you turbo FTW.

Some interestinfg replies...

Thanks to that bloke who replied back about the 1/4s

Interesting, so in realisty, things aren't all THAT different in terms of times. Generally though people over here seem to be running slightly slower times in general, but, Drag Racing over there is much much larger (We don't have any "official" competitions that run modified street cars up the strip, only silly little day things where you get a bottle of beer and a $1 torque wrench :lol:
