I say CRX, only because they're cheap to repair, maintain and refuel, easy as hell to work on, and utterly simple in design that leaves practically nothing to break.

Get an automatic MX73 Cressida or something.

Dirt cheap, outlandishly reliable with the 5MGE, comfortable, etc....perfect daily.

Don't command the high prices the factory 5spd cars do.

Or how about an ancient turbodiesel Mercedes? They don't cost much of anything and they'll run to 500k. Get like a W116 or a W126.

Not to be rude, but I'm not asking for opinions on what I should get. I have no interest in driving an automatic anymore. I have no interest in owning a Mercedes of any sort, new old, gas or diesel. There are reasons behind the choices I've posted about, and unless something is comparable to those two cars, I highly doubt I'm going to have interest in it. I'm looking for opinions on the two cars posted about originally in this thread. There are alternate reasons behind choosing these cars, and rather you guys believe I can keep from doing heavy mods to them, that is not really what I care about right now. I believe that I won't be tempted to do major mods to these cars, and that is good enough for me, seeing as I'm the one buying the car.

whatever makes you happy. they are both comparable cars in my worthless opinion. if it was me, i think id go with the vw. ive always like that body style....lots of potential either way, but i have a feeling youd leave the vw alone performance wise, vs the crx. and i think you could get the vw for less. crxs that havent been beaten to death, rusted out, gutted out, riced out, whatever you want to call it, are hard to find. ive seen good gti's go for under 1500. and if i remmeber correctly, i think the gtis had quite a bit more hp than the crxs of the same vintage. like in the 140 range. anyway, thats my 2 cents woth.

Performance wise the cars are extremely close. Perhaps not in numbers, but at least in driving capabilities. I don't plan on paying out huge money for a "nice" version of either of them. As long as they aren't terrible, I won't mind. It's going to be a daily car that gets raced at Langley/auto-x. I see no reason to take a "nice" car out there and beat the shit out of it.

And I've already stated, I'll leave both cars along performance wise. I've got the creamsicle still, so if I ever do get the urge to be an idiot, I'll just fix that and drive it for a couple of days.
