The IT Geek Thread. So who does IT?
I'm a Sr UNIX admin, specifically solaris, linux, and irix.. Been contracting out for the past 3 years to the highest bidder.. A couple fulltime gigs I did were for NNS maintaining all their sun/sgi equipment and also for GEICO maintaining all the sun equipment and applications for geico.com. Those were my two favorite employers in my career..
i make advertisements that pop up when you surf the net. I also am a web designer and noob programmer. I have my hands involved in alot of associate programs with various companys.
IT tier 1 helpdesk agent.. entry level with secret clearance. For all those that waited years for their TS im suprised. A close friend of mine got his secret around Jan/feb and then his TS in Aug. after the investigation started right after his secret was cleared. He worked at the same company im at..I dont get how it took so long for others.
Did 9 years of IT in the AF...just got out a couple weeks ago. So far the job market seems to suck around here for what I want to do (and make at least what I was making in the AF), so I'm probably NoVA bound.

If you are NoVA bound, come strong with the salary. Depending on what type of clearance you have, you can easily make 6 figures up here. I'm not there yet, but I am working on it. Believe me, these companies can afford to pay you high salaries.
The IT belt up in Alexandria/DC/Maryland etc. is where literally 80% of IT jobs are in the U.S. They pay very well, the but cost of living is so high it almost equals out to making less and working somewhere else. Plus, being I go to D.C. all the time to visit grandparent's I would not want to drive in that traffic on the daily. My Dad worked at the Pentagon just recently for 2 years and he stayed like 2 miles and about 3-5mins from the building. Took him over an hour to get to work daily.
