Hmm..hard to justify a plausible self-defense, on the other hand a rock-salt loaded 12 guage does wonders. The victim will run off with a burning ass that will continue burning for 2-3 weeks 
Buy a good $100 wireless pressure sensor with a light indicator to tell you when someone is standing next to your car. It's clean, cheap and you wont go to jail since you wont be killing anyone with rock salt.

Back on topic. This is insane, all the cars that are being stolen.....do the cops ever catch any of these people, or do they just issue fucking traffic tickets.

It was most likely stolen for some part, and was taken apart for it and left.
Please tell me how many cars you've seen posted on VADriven/Honda-Tech/etc with
"My car was stolen" and the outcome was they found it completely intact with nothing but a radio missing? Seriously.
Not to mention on the first page he already said it didn't go to the ODU show
