I bought a previously t-boned MR2 and fully restored it (including going as far as cutting sections off another car). It's in primer right now, waiting for H&T's down-draft paint booth to be finished.
1994 Tropical Blue MR2 with Greddy sides and Aeroware front lip
Gen3 swap, TD06-20G externally gated, Berk Exhaust, EMS intercooler, etc etc.
I just came across a 1986 MK1 rolling chassis ... not sure what I am going to do with it ... stock replacement or v6 swap. My buddy has a v6 swap in his 93' ...

4agze ftw, imo. (for a mk1, anyway)
although...i have heard good things about the 3sgte swap into a mk1, making it a mk1.5, as they call em on mr2oc.
Are these cars expensive to mod & maintain? Hard to work on? I've always been very curious about mr2's. Are they reliable? (I'm guessing yes, since its a Toyota :P)
Not really anymore expensive to mod than any other cars, however if you pay someone to work on it the labor will definitely be more than most.
Reliability? Well that depends on the quality of the work done and how much you mod it. Once you upgrade turbo kits you run into the typical boost leaks and headache bullshit. However I've never had one leave me sitting on the side of the road. Like you said, it is a toyota!
I love these cars and wish I could afford another mr2t as a dd.

Yeah, they handle a little better and fewer were made. Although I love the t-tops.
Yeah, less than 30 '93 turbo hardtops in the US and it was the last year they were made, so they are harder to find. I wanted a hardtop since the car was going to be built for time trials/dedicated track car. Hate selling it as I know I probably won't be able to find another one later.
