All good points.

I stand corrected about the 1st gen 302, I didn't realize it was that much of a powerplant, and I kinda have to see your point about it being more os a sports car.

So how about a quick list of what IS considered a "muscle car" in your book?

just for the info doc ford switched to the 4.6 in 96 for the stangs

and the last great muscle car started last year...2003 cobra anyone and the marauder is a sweet car. but is a little expensive to modify. The parts fit up cause its the same motor in the 99up (ex 2003) cobras. The KB Maurader that you prolly saw at richmond run 12.80s is an option from Kenny Brown. im not sure exactly how much the option is...but its expensive as hell. If i t was an older man then he was at dinwiddie 2 weeks ago

And im bettin that guy who drove his car to the dyno and dynoed that DID NOT do it on pump gas. On those once you get above about 450-500 you need some c16 to really light it up.

like 12k for the KB package for the Marauder.

imagine what they could do for a 98-00 cobra

1. they put 302's in explorers up until '01, and no, explorers are not muscle cars, even though you can slap on a blower and nitrous and 4 slicks, and yadda yadda yadda and make it run 11's.
2. we're talking stock vehicles.

- thank you.
5. merf - yes, the 302 was one of the baddest of the asses.
6. if the new cobra was a muscle car, it'd be doing wheelstands from the factory, but handling plays a major part in that car, making it more sports car than muscle car.

if they car was built for the #1 purpose being drag racer, it's rwd, and can damn near do wheelstands with slicks, it is a muscle car.

.. at least that's the way i see it.

i stay tru to the origionals, late 60s- early 70s, cars made for racing. most of them had to lie about how much power they made so that insurance would be reasonable.

hence why they are called the muslce car era.

but i dont know what to call the newer cars like the stang and marauder and shit .

The 302 was only available in the Z/28. From there the 327, the 350, and a couple differently rated 396's. The 302 and the 327 were close HP wise, and would both run some low 13's or high 12's off the showroom floor with polyglas tires. The 396's would run low 12's and upper 11's with polyglas tires.

I would LOVE to see a stock 396 car run anywhere close to low 12's...

I seem to remember them running mid-low 13's on those tires

Name me a non limited production muscle car that can do wheelstands right off the showroom floor.
