what about the weight of cars. the greatest thing about the civic hatchback was how light it was. i don't seen any company designing light weight vehicles. i read something in SCC a while ago that went along the lines of "making a car heavy is to help it be safe in an accident, but making a car lightweight is to help it avoid the accident in the first place."

more into lighter chassis and reinforcement like titanium and carbon kevlar or fiber....

I've discussed this with my friends a few times. The direction that I see the "scene" going towards is newer more nicer/expensive cars. For example, say someone puts all of their money into a civic, and sure it's nice for a civic, but he just gets humbled when a stock E36 M3 comes by. The civic has more money wrappped into than the M3, but the retail value and the exclusivity goes to the M3 hands down, which makes the M3 the more desireable car. This is going to come around as more and more of the people in the scene start to grow up and actually begin to make some money to afford a newer/nicer car. But no matter what happens, there will always be the people with the fart cans and big-ass wings; simply because they are like a virus, no matter what you do, the virus is still going to be contained inside of you. Finally, turbos/superchargers/nitrious are going no where. There will always be a market for those crazy-ass gearheads that want as much horsepower (or most of the time more) that their engine will allow. But there are companies out there more or less reinventing the ways of force induction. For example, ASA makes superchargers with clutches in them so while you are cruising you aren't pulling boost (stressing the engine) and you can run boost levels like those found in turbos (22 psi). And anyone that doesn't agree can blow me. Later.

i think that there is a whole new level of rice that we cant even imagine that will be approaching the scene very soon. I believe APC will dip their filthy fucking hands in it.

I agree with u totally about this but its where u buy the cars and how much u want to spend volvo has been making 230hp inline 4's since early to mids 80's and 250-275hp inline 5 since very early 90's. So its all you look for the heavy volvo up to 1994 was 3500 pounds that was inline 6 model too so... Just to tell people there not as heavy as u think....but are still beastliy.. look at hte new volvo s60r (sedan) or v70r (wagon). THey both have in car tunable distrubtion torque managment system... 3 mods. Economy mode 95% front and 5% back then sport 50% front and 50% back then advanced sport 5% front then 95% back. dont ask me where they got the name... But it has 300 hp and 295 poudns of torque from 1850-redline rpm... the sedan weight jsut udner 3500 pounds.. so i dont know volvo, saab, pregout, MG, um alot of other european car besides bmw, MB, VW/Audi/Porsche have been makeing high performance sedans and wagons.. so MB is on development of 1000hp 2400 pounds carbon fiber body with one of hte designs of the mclaren f1 on there team also form what iread they are going to be using a v12 m power bmw engine just like mclaren but wiht alot more power pushed out of it.... it might be beating pretty soon so all types of cars are gettin in the car seen...

I See alot of things happening in the auto industry...

Detroit...
Ford and Dodge have a good in into the sport compact scene. Chevy however has been a little slow to react, with the Cavy/Sunfire aftermarket. They're just coming out with a GM performance parts supercharger system. Ford however has done well with the Focus. The SVT is a very good bargain for under 18grand. This is a good ammount of performance for the price, and has a burgeoining aftermarket. Dodge seems to have hit the nail on the head with the SRT-4. However they must overcome the shadow of the Neon to be truly sucessful. I see forced induction becoming more prevalent in domestics. I also see the possibility of a new sport compact class emerging. This would pick up where the Ford Probe and Dodge Daytona left off. A small bodied car, designed for some performance but still maintaning fuel economy and some carrying capacity. This could be powered by a small blown V-6 or a intercooled turbo 4. possibly an I-6. I see domestics trying to overcome their chintzy reputation...

Japan...
Japan has lost much of their performance niche. With the loss of the FD, Supra and 300ZX their performance market took a serious hit. However the reemergence of the RX-8 and the 350Z there is hope. The S-2000 is too expensive to ever have a very good hold on the import scene. Toyota seems to have abandoned their performance history. A new performance platform is neede to take the responsibility off of the lackluster Celica. I see Nissan and Mazda as two of the major forces in the performance econobox market. Between Mazdaspeeds extensive support and Nissan's willingness to interact with aftermarket tuners i see them moving into the head of the pack. Mitsubishi's EVO VII (8 to the rest of the world) is a serious contender in the upper scale market right now dominated by Subaru's WRX. I see Japan finally upping the displacement of their engines yet retaining a strict engine management and effiency in order to keep fuel economy up. I don't see much use of superchargers in japan, althought i see the aftermakret for them increasing signifigantly. I see weight staying the same as saftey features are used in conjunction with lighter weight chassis.

Europe...
I see europe as leading the world in automotive technology. Look no further than the M-5, S60R, S4 or E 55 AMG. High prices will keep the european car from becoming the mainstay here in the states though. I see european cars getting more and more efficent (R32) and handeling even better (S60R). I see them continuing along this track, and i see them being the first to implement fuel cells on a broad scale. Go Euro!
