I believe that in order for the hicas to be disabled it has to be physically disabled not just in the computer. Stillen sells a kit for it. Oh yea..screw the miata ...SpecV should be the flagship....

So can anybody from IV tell me how the Haltech will benefit the Z that the Zemulator is lacking? You've already done the research obviously. Don't keep me in the dark.

i dont doubt that the zemulator is a powerful system, but the fact that it still utilizes the stock computer seems limiting to me...haltech provides a host of options not available from zemulator such as the ability to get rid of the MAF sensor...also a system such as the TEC-III gives you the ability to use a high power ignition system with great ease as well as better accuracy from the crank position sensor included w/ the ECU

Why would you want to get rid of the MAF?

I think the HKS Ignition would be all the Z32 needs. But I guess I'm looking at it from a car-specific point of view.

For cars in general I'd definitely recommend Haltech or something comparable. But I'd rather make use of a car-specific device, unless it is lacking necessary capabilities. I'm nowhere near the point of needing either system, so I'm not sure which way I would go.

although the z32 uses a hot-wire MAF, which is less restrictive than flapper door type MAF, it is still very much more restrictive than straight piping. im looking at this from a very high performance point of view and the ability to expand your project later more economically. although current performance aspirations may not be high, later on with the haltech you could tune the vehicle to very high performance levels cheaper than eventually having to get rid of the zemulator unit

I think I see your point.
But on the Z32, a dual intake setup should provide all the additional airflow you would ever need. You would just need to use the Zemulator, Haltech or other device to remap the ECU.

What exactly would be the replacement of the MAF and what would be the benefit of doing that? I don't think I've ever heard of this being done.

The MAF could be replaced with MAP, very similar to stock honda motors such as the H22, it doesnt have a MAF
