What kind and where you get them? I'm looking to buy some soon, but want bang for the buck.
I mean.. When it comes to stuff like this.. Why not get something that is gonna hold up your 5000+ bike.. You wanna buy a cheap ass stand? Spend the money.. get a quality stand.

I have read numerous places that the t-rex and other cheaper stands are very good quality and have no issues. It's great that you bought the higher end part, but I only do that when necessary when it comes to something such as a stand. Your jack stand analogy, for example. Yes I will use auto zone jack stands since they work just as well and are half the price, as long as they arn't obviously some bullshit material that is dangerous. Snap on is quality shit, but not always necessary.
What do you have against t rex stands? You are aware they are very reputable and even make frame sliders, right?
Roomate bought a set of T-Rex from eBaY... He wants to get rid of them asap.. They are cheaply put together and he is worried about having his bike set up on them... he has an '08 R1.. Not to mention the parts of the stand are held together with Hitch Pins.. No welds.. CHEAP

I don't like my bike being on anything other than a kick stand, but I trusted my friends t rex stands for at least an hour. If you have spools it feels like you can kick it without an issue. I shook the bike for a good 5 minutes to be sure and didn't second guess them for a second.
