Early 1st gens. Pretty sure they switch to 1.8 in 96 or so. I don't feel like googling it.

ok so the 1.6 motor can handle more power??

i would still like to see the details of the sr20 swap though, i really want to try and tackle it

Both hold up to about 250-260 perfectly fine on stock internals.

Which is really all you can do reliably anyway, because beyond that power leve, transmission problems seem to occur.

The solution for that is either to swap an RX-7 TII driveline, for which you would need some custom work/welding...or you could swap in a newer 6speed from either the RX8 or Mazdaspeed, and a diff that would stretch out the gears a bit.

If I get to that point, I'll be doing the latter.

They take more boost then the 1.8's but the 1.8's are more torquey. I always had better results with the 1.6 motor however the 1.8 motors are newer
