Well the main reason I am for a live axle is cost, but if they can utilize IRS and keep costs down, then I'm all for it. I think that the aftermarket with enough time and research will come up with an effective drag setup for IRS, or a live axle conversion if they can't. Either way I'm buying one.
Not that you can't make a nice handling car with a live axle, but you're at a slight disadvantage from the beginning. There are many well handling live axle cars, but it's not the greatest place to start. There is a reason most rear drive cars don't have a live axle anymore.. But yes, if you like to drag race, live axle setups are cheaper and easy to do. You can make a really great IRS system for drag racing too, it's all in the geometry, but it's just more money and there isn't much use when you can have a live axle for less money. I guess it depends on what you want to do when you're not at the track..
