Who lives in an Apt?
I bought a condo because I didn't want a yard, etc. I am planning on moving to NYC in 2 years. I wll look into selling or renting it out when the time comes. I am not saying it makes you grown, but my mom is a loan officer. It's been drilled into my head to establish great credit soon and buy, not rent.
Also, I understand almost all of your points, both of you. Like I said, I just can't see blowing $1000+ a month.

I think the biggest reason I won't buy at this point in my life is becuase I can't afford a morgage in my area on my own and I don't trust anyone enough to let them move into MY house.
That, and I think I'll need another year or so to have my credit back on point. ha
i moved outta my peeps house at 17. bought my first condo at 23 for 155K at the oceanfront. I am now 25 and have about 75K in equity. I dont plan on staying in the area forever, but its nice to know that when i do move, I'll have a little pocket money. Buying a home is buying a appreciating value and just a simple investment in my eyes.

When I worked at the shipyard, I lived at River Park Tower and it was really nice.. 18 blocks from building 500 (where I worked) and the rent was pretty low.. If I remember correctly, I paid $800 for a 20th floor 2 bedroom, 2 full bath penthouse overlooking the shipyard and the james river.. Parking garage with a gate and all that stuff..

i live in waverton place impressions off of jefferson in the new apartments and it is pretty nice except the parking sux sometimes. $910 a month, 2 bed 2 bath, 1000 sq ft
Or people that want to wait and see what else is out there. With the way the market is now I'd rather rent a year and see what it's like in a year. I know your situation and you got a great deal with your shit, but when I move out I will most likely be renting a townhouse (need a yard) and go from there or maybe I'll do what you're doing (loan wise).
edit: a few people beat me to it. I replied after I read your statement and didn't finish reading the thread.

Yeah I'm still browsing around for now. You're place is probably one of the top options right now, I just haven't surely decided rather I want to live on the Southside or not, plus wherever I go, it won't be until AFTER my car is running. Hoping to be into a place between mid-Jan and mid-Feb.

And I'm not paying anywhere near $1000 a month, not even half that, and I have the biggest room in the apartment. I pay more per month for my car than I do for my rent.
Once I have the money, I'll buy. But with the market the way it is on the southside, the only thing I'll be able to afford is a sub $100k house, and good luck finding one of those worth half a shit anywhere. You dont know how much cheaper it is to live on the peninsula.
