my parents had nothing but domestics growing up. all i can remember is problems w/ them. and i dunno what it is w/ the smell of fords in the interior. i think it's something in the oil of the vinyl. my mom's van had it and my girlfriend's car has it. it makes me feel car sick, and i'm not a motion sick person. i dunno. but anyways, back on topic.....
true to keeping your car up to par, a guy i know (and some of you probably do) josh meekins had a early nighties mustage 5.0. if you didn't know better, you would think it just rolled off the lot. it was in perfect condition and actually loved that car. i never got a chance to see what it could do, but i'm sure it was fast. i guess i'd have more respect for the domestics if ppl would keep them in good condition.

Ford and Dodge have a good in into the sport compact scene. Chevy however has been a little slow to react, with the Cavy/Sunfire aftermarket. They're just coming out with a GM performance parts supercharger system. Ford however has done well with the Focus. The SVT is a very good bargain for under 18grand. This is a good ammount of performance for the price, and has a burgeoining aftermarket. Dodge seems to have hit the nail on the head with the SRT-4. However they must overcome the shadow of the Neon to be truly sucessful. I see forced induction becoming more prevalent in domestics. I also see the possibility of a new sport compact class emerging. This would pick up where the Ford Probe and Dodge Daytona left off. A small bodied car, designed for some performance but still maintaning fuel economy and some carrying capacity. This could be powered by a small blown V-6 or a intercooled turbo 4. possibly an I-6. I see domestics trying to overcome their chintzy reputation...

As for Saturns up comming car the Saturn ION (300 HP from a 1.9 litre Twin cam engine holy shit......) But yes ford is the Honda of domestics they build a good N/A Sport compact (the SVT fovus) and Saturn is the Nissan/DSM of the domestics they just play with boost instead of waisting time trying to squeeze 10 more HP out of the head......No offense to Focus owners I wouldnt mind having either of the 2 the ION or the SVT focus.......
T-cam? Never heard of it. unless this si some new-fangled way to say dual cam. Sorry i'm a DOHC man myself. I don't know alot about the saturn power plants. They're kinda like the Saab of the U.S. Kinda quirky and misunderstood. Everyone keeps telling me about this 1.9l 300HP engine. I'm sorry but i'm gonna have to call
on this one. Unless it's at least twin turboed it's not gonna make that kind of power. (factory nitrous?) Not from a saturn. Even the 2.8L Bi-Turbo I-6 Used in the S4 doesn't put down that kind of power. Even if it was a 20v DOHC I-4 i doubt it'd put down over 250hp. They have to have some serious technology to be boasting that kind of power. The ION looks to be a good platform, but from the looks of everything i'm seeing it looks to be the 20 something version of the toyota camry. Ergo a accord for the "matrix" crowd. If you follow me...

I dont know where the import seen is going but I think it is leaving me behind. Just a few years ago you could do 2 or 3 things to your car and you stood out and that was cool. Now you have to drop thousands of dollars to set yourself apart, then at that point you have totally outclassed the other cars in your class, and people critisise(sp) you and say why didnt you just buy a better car in the first place if you where going to spend that kind of money. Not to mention I am getting older and have to start thinking about spending my money on a nicer home for my family and stuff like that. Dont get me wrong I love the car sceen and always will, it is just getting to darn expensive for me. And I figure for under 10 grand total I can have a totally bad ass classic car that everyone respects just because it is cool and not that common, and it doesnt even have to be fast just has to sound good and look good.
As for the new car market like they say history repeats itself... back in the day chevy camaro's and ford mustangs were affordable cars that the everyday guy could afford but they were a great platform to tinker with so people that couldnt afford to buy a performance car built there everyday car into one. Just like the honda people have done. And those affordable factory hot rods got faster and faster and the companies came out with new stuff ect ect... then came the emissions and gas milage crap and the market fell out from under those cars. And it will again and just a few dihard enthusiasts will continue the tradition until the next generation in tuners comes about, and once again it will start again.
just my 2 cents
ps does anyone want to buy my VW it already has all the basic stuff you just need to add the FI

Edit: It is what it is....The BS factor you put on it will more than likely be proven to you (The day you rev on one) as for the Comment about the Cammry/solara, and Accord....they may be family oriented cars but you do some research and youll find that your beloved taurus is a family car in this same ball-game.....No offense the SHO is cool in my book but you cant talk shit about a car that was built with the same idea in mind as your car.....Sporty, yet accomidating (sp) ..........

I think the more peeps fix up them Neons, Cavs, and Saturns, the more the import scene is going to die soon! Especially when i saw a Lowrider Mustang with a APEXi sticker on the windshield. Please somebody stop them.
