Yes, there is a difference.

Tow Straps : Tow straps are static, pull with all the force at one time. Commonly used more for securing loads or towing. they are more like seatbelts, they have NO give to them.

Recovery Straps : These are made to be like elastic, stretching and distributing the pressure equally to prevent shock to either vehicle. They are more like a rubber band and stretch.

There are a bunch bunch of places online that carry them. I got mine through Independent4X in Ashland, VA. They had a booth set up at a United 4 Wheel Drive event going on. I got mine in a package deal. I know the places like Quadratech, 4wheel parts, 4wheel drive hardware, Desert Rat. . . places like those carry them, in all kinds of brands.

Here is a pic of what i'm using. . .

My straps are :
1 3"x30' ARB Recovery Strap (orange)
1 3"x10' ARB Tree Protector (green)
1 2"x8' Keeper Tree Protector (yellow)
Not Shown :
1 3"x30' Keeper Recovery Strap
1 4"x30' Tow Strap

Rest of the stuff is :
4 D Rings
Snatch Block
Quick Air Down Tool
4 Way Lug Wrench
Two Sets Of Gloves
Rain Ponchos
Two Small Tarps
60" High Lift

Some of the best money ever spent was in my recovery items, they've helped my @$$ several times!

I bought them as a 'kit' with the Large ARB bag, two straps, air down tool, snatch block, tree savers, set of D-rings for just under $300. You can find cheaper stuff, but like I said, this stuff was bought at a event and was put together as a "package deal".

I just listed out the stuff, looked it up and priced it separately from sites I've bought from.

ARB Air Deflator - $38.59
ARB Large Recovery Bag - 49.12
2 5/8 D Rings - 12.75 (x2)
Warn Snatch Block - 91.28
ARB Snatch Strap 3"x30' - 69.00
ARB Tree Saver 3"x 10' - 35.00
Keeper Tree Saver 2"x 8' - 18.00

= $326.49 (before taxes)

That's what all came in my 'kit' that I bought.

That's not including the winch and winch accessories + other gear. Ya, it kinda makes me sick to think about it. But, when needed (and I have) it's there. All my stuff has paid for itself by getting me and others out of (could be) expensive situations.

I'd buy it all again.
