Any Mercedes made from '02-'06 or so had massive electrical problems. IIRC they outsourced the electrical components to a shitty 3rd party.
Now it seems to be either hit or miss...either you get one that has tons of problems, or one that has zero, so check the maintenance history.
Also fwiw, I used to work at checkered flag bmw. 3 of the techs there were former techs at the MB dealership down the street. All 3 said Mercedes were steaming piles of dung, and that BMWs were hands down the better built car.

Every brand has cars that are going to come in with flaws, but to call the brand as a whole piles of dung? That's a bit much, and shows its obviously a skewed opinion; either from bad work place experiences or just he said/she said bs.
Lol, well that was my emphasis added, but these were older guys giving me advice when I looking at purchasing a car. This was also a few years ago, from what I know Mercedes have improved greatly since then. My friend also has had an '06 E350 for 3 years, and it's been very reliable save for having to replace the sunroof motor which was a gazillion dollars. His brother has an '02 E320 with 150k on it that's been pretty reliable. However when I looked into buying one I never saw anything good about their electrical reliability, and there's a lot that can go wrong. Hell, I like those years Mercedes personally, the way they drive and look, but it's something to look into if you're going to buy one.

Wastegates, that is kinda silly how they did it.. but I'm sure it looks cool as fuck when they open.
Lastly, that is a precision anti-surge housing, check it out.
Why is the motor fail?
