Since we're talking about boosted S2000 race cars...

I guess 4.77's aren't the shit anymore? My 4.77's, ACT clutch+flywheel, good rubber and Spoon N1 had me deep in the 13's and beating AWD cars off the line. Stock motor + 4.77's = the N/A torque you guys are looking for. To me it was the ultimate setup for that car for all forms of racing. With that much torque freed up it was a monster coming out of the corners and a blast to drive. Felt super slow going back to factory 4.10's. A set of ITB's would have been pure perfection with those mods.

But I guess I'm just a gearing and ITB kind of guy.

Quote: I feel you on that, but with a proper boost by gear set-up and a twin-scroll set-up, you can bring in the boost early and not drastically upset the rear. I guess its just different strokes as ya'll say.
Have you ever tracked a car?
It's not as easy as you think.

Hey Ryan. And about the 477 thing, Shawn put some in his 03 that he had and I prefered it stock. Anything other than a launch it seemed useless.
And quarter mile times: Zak took his bosses 100% stock NFR 2000 S to VMP and ran several back to back 14.0s; he did everything he could to get it to run a .02 faster and it never did. I plan on taking my 166,000 mile 00 to the track soon to see what it runs.

Hey Jarrod. To me the 1st and 2ndgear acceleration was perfect over stock. Esp the 1-2 shift. It just set you back and didn't stop through the 0-60. Was just my style though. You are correct in 3rd it only pulled maybe a half a car on a stock 4.10 car. But would easily put 2 cars on a stock S off the line. That's alot of useful torque to have on a track powering through the turns at low speeds.

And good luck man the S is a super tricky car to break 13's with. I got a 13.98 @ 99.7mph w/ 2.0 60ft with mine stock and I'm pretty sure Flite got a 13.8 with his back in the day. You don't see many people able to get a 13 out of a stock one. My advice is launch high and feather the throttle don't let it spin below 6k rpm and it will hook and take off. Let it fall too low and it will bog like a SOB and wheel hop pretty bad. I've seen 13's to 15's in stock AP1's lol.

Whatchu' talking about Willis? I can drive the wheels off my car, on a track or not. I have been to a few auto-x's, but money isn't right for a weekend HPDE yet. I could probably afford it, but don't have a car I feel comfertable enough putting around a track. Two-owner, 56k original miles; isn't the best track whore candidate.

I also happened to be the 5th fastest in Richmond, VA @ AIK/G-force (within my 10th time ever in a kart) and I rarely even go; so I do indeed understand the concept of going around a track. Driving is something that just came natural to me. I'm not some pansy non-driving fuck.

With all the s2000 talk here (didn't know so many of you still had one), why not plan a vadriven get together sometime here soon? I should have a race-gas tune next month; anyone down for a 6-700whp ride-along?

The only problem I have with 4.77's is how high it makes you spin on the highway. I've heard getting an AP2 tranny in an AP1 is like having 4.44's in the first 5 gears, but with a stock AP1 6th, which is basically all I would want. I really want to get 4.44's or 4.57's, but I dont want to spin 5k @ 70mph.

Not many tracks besides something small like driftwater are really low speed though. VIR only really has one "low speed" corner, and thats oak tree. The rest of them you can pick the right gear and be right in the meat of the powerband just about every single time. Summit Point doesnt really have any low speed corners, unless you cound T1 as a low speed corner. I'd be more worried about the constant shifting than the torque in an S2000 at most racetracks. And also top speed at the tracks with longer straights (VIR has two where you'd probably hit 120-130 in an S2000, SP Main has 1). I dont know what 4.77's give you as far as top speed goes though.
