but with a nice set of HID's, you have better light output with your low beams (HID) than you ever did with your standard bulbs in low AND high beams.
The lumen output (light output) of a 4300k HID system is around 2.5 times that of even the standard 9005 high beams of a single beam reflector headlight. You can do a Bi-xenon retrofit, where the cutoff shield mechanically lifts up thereby producing light higher up. Same overall light output, just more spread out. The depth of how far a HID low beam will go is just as nice as a Bi-xenon though, the cutoff just limits how high up the beam is, so the ground is still lit up just as much as a high beam would. Unless you go owl watching you don't necessarily need Bi-xenon. As far as retrofits go, bi-xenon projectors because of their mechanical system that lifts the shield up, are more bulky and difficult to retrofit into a housing due to physical size constraints.

Thanks for the kind words, I try to mod my car to be the most streetable DSM I can imagine. Full fiberglass audio system, TSX HID retrofit, 30psi through an FP Green along with full supporting mods all around, AWD, 18" Racing Hart wheels, and a 97 body swap just to name a few. I'll be hitting up the dyno this weekend, I'm hoping for numbers similar to Vr4ever's.

Theres a shot from about a year ago, didnt even wax it or anything for that pic, just a quick 15 minute wash that morning.

Not to take away from the thread, but that is a well balanced list. GL on the dyno. 30psi on race fuel is addicting.

Thank you, I try to stay away from the DSM ugly car high spool stereotype as much as possible. Unlike 99% of the DSMs out there my goal was never a track queen, it was just as your car is, the ultimate street car, decent spool, good turning, great looks, with all the creature comforts you can have in a street car but still over 400awhp. I had to wait until today when my AEM 3.5 bar sensor came in so I could actually log boost in DSMlink again as my GM 3bar is maxed out, and won't read the boost I'm actually running anymore. I don't mean to take away from the thread, just wanna say thanks for the kind words.

They rely on the factory halogen bulb to have the cutoff built into the glass.
I agree completely, I really really dislike HID in a reflector housing. Even in cars that come STOCK with HID in a reflector housing is looks horrible imo.

The only thing to direct the beam pattern is the flutes in the glass/plastic cover. Halogen lights seem to respond "ok" with this set but HID just isn't that great.

Lee- could you take a picture of your headlights on a wall at night about 15-20ft away? This would really tell what the cut off is like on your headlights.

Yep, I believe Fall '04, one day after getting it back from my home after performing the 1g head/intake/Tb swap as well as upgrading the turbo/downpipe/O2/wastegate. So like I said it literally just got a 15 minute wash.

no has yet to mention that when you go over 6 or 8K ( i dont remember ) you start LOOSING light output. so anything over that is strictly for show. another thing to take into mind is that a h.i.d. lamp age; as it ages the color changes it will start off white and when its burned in a bit it goes purple bluish then slowly dimmns to a yellowis orange color. so most of the lux cars with the "purple" hids just have "old" lamps

I sure did, I'll even quote myself for ya

As for colorshifting, I didn't mention that you're right. After about 120 hours of usage the typical OEM HID bulb will begin to blue a tad. But thats just natural to HID systems and there's not much you can do about it. But you are correct.
