you get it to quit misfiring? Those cars had troubles with coils, they are notorious for being bad, pretty cheap too. Also I think they still used the 'final stage', otherwise known as a power transistor. They caused problems as well, but I can't recall whether the s4's use them...

So now we've narrowed it down to that one coil extension. See, when we ordered the 2 coils from audi they only sent us the coils, and no coil extensions...which I always thought those were included. So we were having to use new coils, with old extensions.
All in all, we solved the mystery for cylinder 2 (bad coil). And solved the mystery for cylinder 5 (bad extension and possibly bad coil as well). Now we're just waiting for the extensions (we ordered 2 just to be safe) to come in (either tomorrow or thursday).
Yea, you're on the money. We changed 2 coils (cylinders 2 and 5) in my silver car today and erased the fault (misfire) codes. Went out to drive it again, the misfire code for cyl. 2 never came back. The misfire code for cyl. 5 came back...so then we swapped the coil/plug extension (I think thats what they're called) from coil 5 with coil 1, erased the codes. Went to drive and cyl. 1 misfire code came up!

hmmmm I thought they had the red one piece coils? I can't recall, its been a bit since I've serviced one and I didn't pay that much attention to the coil design.
Glad you got it figured out. If you need any help let me know, though sounds like ur on it.

Hopefully this will fix it all...then i've got to do the same thing to my Imola S, because its doing the EXACT same thing. So I figure i'll pull the codes, and replace the coils to the cylinders that are misfiring. So strange that both of them would do it within a month of each other haha.
After I get the silver one squared away, im going to work on my tweaking. I'm getting ECUx to do some logging, then from there i'll tweak it. I plan on running my race program on 109 if they carry it here in roanoke...that would be ideal. The program I have right now is set up for 104/105 but its pretty aggressive, so once I run 109 through it, i'll log it then adjust the timing and boost accordingly.
Later on down the road I plan on doing a meth(or alky)/h20 setup, but it'll be the spring at least before that. Plus i'll need to get it on the dyno to get that dialed in...for now I can do the tweaking myself until I go with the meth setup.
