I know turbo's are a bit cramped, but there's room to spare if it's N/A. So if I were to do a daily driven SW20 I'd probably throw a 3rd Gen BEAMS in there.

Hey I'm looking to buy a car, specifically an MR2 or Miata (I'm looking for my first car, so between like $1-4k). Since this is an MR2 thread, I'd like to ask for some recommendations as to which model I should aim for and the pros/cons with the models/car in general (I've narrowed it down to Mk1's and MkII's year models (86-93). Or if anyone here is willing to sell, let me know.

93-95 turbo as a general rule of thumb, imo.
if you want to do any kind of autocross or road racing, try to find a hardtop or sunroof instead of the t-top, but even the t-top isn't that bad.

i like the 94+ tails, but it's a popular conversion so it's not hard to find a 93 with 94+ tails on it like the kracka that posted above you for example.

check out www.mr2oc.com for really great info and pretty much the largest community of mr2 owners. there's also mr2board.com which is pretty large as well. i think a lot of the same ppl are on both.

mk1 mr2s are smaller and lighter and the motor is pretty much bullet proof and you can also find a 4agze for a decent price if you can find one or you could just swap one in....keep the aw11's alive i love these little cars:-)the mk1 is a better autocross car though but the mk2 is a decent autocrosser as well

I'm not looking to autocross yet (well, its not something I'm looking for). Are the Mr2s reliable? The scariest thing I've hear about them would be that the tranny goes bad in some Mk1's and the crankshaft goes (in only 1%) in the 90-91 models.

think about how old they are and then realize that they may not be in the best shape when you find them.
