fastest mr2 in va
bout fucking time he got rid of the stock one. From what i saw of the motor, the whole intake side i wanted to trash and make anew.
tell him i said congrats. he does "buy" into stuff alot. hahah i never knew why he wanted me to tune his car. but i loved smoking the shit out of everything i ran into on the street with his car. i'm glad he got the bitch to breathe a little better.

just for the record.... both mr2's mentioned by noshoes where built by seth and myself. ive got a fair amount with these things.. and though they can be made to be fast, drag cars they are not.
the honda, u can throw some power at and be made amazingly fast. this is due mostly to their low weight. fact of the matter.... the same formula doesnt work equally well on all cars. mr2's are heavy little piggies. they do make up for there weight with superior handling {they are mid engine
} mike ko's car, as i understand, has enabled him to set several track records at VIR. great road and track car.... but its still kinda slow in a straight line.
it'll never run 9's, but they will damn sure wheelie on command
oh yeah..... they do pop alotta head gaskets. come on now.. the issue is head bolts. head designed by yamaha on a toyota block. they still havent got the mating perfect. stock bolts kinda suck, and arp's were believed to be a bit to resistant to stretching. this mad eht head gasket the weak link and prone to failure.
arp has now redesigned there head botls due largely in part to the efforts of the great skippy at abacus.
of course this is all my opinion...... what the hell do i know?

The "myth" of the head gaskets popping all the time is not due to ARP studs, or any of the factory bolts. The MR2 does NOT have a weak head gasket mating surface design.
The problem with the MR2 lies in the factory ECU. It throws too much timing at the motor, to put it simply. Add an AFC "controlling" larger injectors to the mix and you have a recipe for instant boom. Build the motor after it pops the first time, and the rod bearings and the head gasket become the weak link.
Do stand-alone management early on, and you can make well over 500rwhp with the proper airflow modifications.
Bottom line: Throw too much timing at a motor and you get way too much cylinder pressure at the wrong time, or you get a detonation event. Either or, TIMING is what generally pops gaskets when you have everything else right.

well.... i must agree with the mr2 fact. ecu sucking the dick. ive seen 3sgte's make over 700hp. then again they ran on meth. but whatever.
the mrpoo head bolt design was changed... so arp must have felt the need for a reason. who knows.... i know albert at alamo {formerly of ocean audio} is making 525 to the wheels of his mrpoo right now. he sent his dyno sheets down to a friend a week or so back.
ive never done any dfi work with mrpoo's because, well... i fucking hate those cars. i always had suspensions about the teeny weeny side mount i/c being a cause of reliability issues. with the motors in the back and all they seem to fall vicitim to heat soak.
only thing i really have against them is trying to reach in the engine bay. ive seen people take off the trunk lid and sit in the trunk while workin on the motor. and that maze of coolant lines... omg.
speaking of improper head work... did u know theres a local cnc serdi machine now?

i was being serious, i know noshoes, i know he is a genious. i guess it's kinda hard to hear inflection when you are reading. btw i got those endlinks on. something still clicks in the right rear when i break...
