If you plan to pull anyone else out ever you should invest in some recovery gear. That chain is just waiting to kill someone or damage a vehicle.
Are you dumb? just get away from the chains when pulling and hook up with where frame suppose to be pull the trailer/camper/etc. Do thing right what you know to do.

Do you read? I said "That chain is just waiting to kill someone or damage a vehicle." Having witnessed and performed many recoveries on and off road I have seen plenty of winch lines and chains snap and cause damage to a vehicle. While on the street it is not nearly as likely it is still possible.
I don't even want to talk about some of the silly shit I have seen off-road where people are pulling with chains and kids and adults standing a couple of feet away watching.
