Should be tank to petcock to pump to carbs. At least I believe that's how it is on my R6.

I've got it setup but for whatever reason I'm not getting anything from the pump. I feel the relay click when I try to start it but the pump itself doesn't spin/prime at all. I wonder if I've got it's polarity reversed (I had to change the plug).

Yeah, check the wiring. I know that was a "gotcha" with my regulator. But it should setup the way I described, which was confirmed by Steve.
