Just a FYI. Northeastern Carolina is planning on building a 1/4 mile drag strip, a 5/8 asphalt track, and a 1/2 mile dirt track. Its only 11miles from the VA/NC border.

Here is a quote.

The Mid-Atlantic Motorsport complex will consist of approximately 300 acres, located on Highway 17 North, just 11 minutes from the VA/NC state lines. The plan is for a 1/4-mile drag strip, a 5/8-mile asphalt track and a 1/2-mile dirt track and will provide this area with racing events on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Sanctioning for all 3 tracks will be sought through National Sanctioning bodies. Each facility will be able to seat approximately 5000 spectators.

Also to build a decent track like VMP it will run 6-8 million in start up costs. However a track like Richmond would probably run 1/4 to a 1/3 of that cost.

more info on the NC track

If this track IS built I don't think a track within 30 mins will fly.

I don't think that's our intial goal. Right now it's just to find a place to hang out and have the occasional race. It doesn't need to be a full race facility. Just a big area of pavement would work.

The question is what legal and financial hurdles are there in even getting something fairly simple set up?

In that case I'd try to see if they would open Suffolk Raceway back up. If not that perhaps some other smaller local airports might be willing to do it. It would most likely be a 1/8th mile strip though because I doubt they would want all the risk involved in a 1/4 mile, not only that insurance.

That might be easier then trying to create one. Even if it is low key it's gonna cost starting from scratch. I think it definatly can be done we just need the plan. With a "real" strip and racepark coming though finding a old air field or the old Suffolk track would be nice. Plus it gives us an alternative with less limitations to who can race and when. We don't even really need a tree for that matter. In Fast and Furious at the end the drag racing was out at some old field in the desert. That would be fine (minus the desrt part). But if we found an old peice of land with the right stuff all we would need is some permision to use it and conduct ourselfs responsibly and we'll be set. Just an outlet to get the street racing off the street. If you want timeslips and the officialness of a race track then make a trip. But if you want to just see who's car is faster, bullshit with your friends and have a good time then lets just go hit up a farmer in pungo to let us borrow a few acres.

everybody has been doing a great job in providing support for this new idea.

i don't think the track in north carolina will make that big of a difference, because we're just trying to set-up some make-shift type of place in this area for us to congregate and race.

i know there are abandoned airstrips like fentress and pungo, but where are some more? i think if we definately try to take advantage of those areas, we might find ourselves more successful.

any more suggestions on names for the campaign?

I just want to poitn out (if it hasn't already been said) that they are building a 1/4 mile track on highway 17 about 15 miles south of the Va/Nc border. Also, I think some of the appeal of street racing is the fact that they're doing something wrong, it's not official, it's not organized, and for the most part nobody sees you do it. So if you loose you can make up stupid excuses and shit. I'm all for a track close to the area but I don't think it will stop street racing or even really slow it down at all.

im pretty shure that there are several abandoned air strips around this area that the goverment owns why not see about using one of them that would eliminate alot of the price due to not having to by land and then all you would need s the employees and electronics and recondition the strip and bleachers and concessions...
just an idea

First we need about 1/2 mile becasue we dont have auto matic 0 distance stopping brakes in real life...
